At the League committee meeting on 6th Dec 2010 it was agreed that club secretaries and members should be made aware of two new ETTA rules together with clarification of two existing rules and the dispensation offered re league match arrangements in the first half of the season These are as follows:- ETTA 1 Players may not change their bats during a game (a game consists of three or five sets) unless it is so badly accidentally, damaged as to prevent it's further use. 2 Bat covering rules are now extended down to local league level . The authorised list of rubbers is issued twice per year and comes into force six months after issue. From our league viewpoint this means that the September 2010 list comes into force in April 2011. The list may be viewed on the ETTA website Presently we await issue of hard copy to the League. EXISTING RULE CLARIFICATION 1 Service It is the players responsibility to serve in such a manner so that the umpire can visually verify that the service is legal from his adopted umpiring position. The onus is upon the player and the umpire is entitled to refuse a request to change his position during a game. 2 Existing rules allow an umpire to declare a let if a sudden external noise is of sufficient severity so as to interfere with the players concentration Additionally players are not allowed to generate such noise either by shouting or the stamping of feet whilst the ball is in play Umpires in the first instance should call a let and warn the offender about future conduct. Any reoccurrence should lead to the loss of the point and if persistent to disqualification from that game.
