Message from Peter Smith regarding Kings Church venue on 20/02/10

It is requested that all 1st and 2nd Division teams arrive at Kings Church by 7.00pm and matches commence at 7.15pm. It is also requested that every effort is made to play on 2 tables when available so that the matches can be completed before 10.00pm so that the premises can be vacated at 10.00pm. The reasons for these changes are that juniors are played in all Kings Church teams and they require transportation. For insurance purposes the venue has to be supervised, checked and locked up by designated members of the Church. These key holders are not prepared to lock up after 10.00pm because they normally have venue / player issues to sort out afterwards and they have a early start for work the next day.

Active Norfolk Website: Article by Jerry Walker

GYDTTL is pleased to associate itself with www.wewalk.co.uk , Gt. Yarmouth and District’s part of a county-wide project (www.activenorfolk.org/fittogether). This project is being funded by several high profile organisations which include among others: National Sports Foundation, Sport England & Gt. Yarmouth & Waveney PCT and is designed to encourage increased physical activity & exercise and a healthier lifestyle among the 50+ group (although younger participants are certainly not discouraged!).

Although one of our main objectives is to encourage our youngsters, this particular project may be of particular interest to older members of the league who are looking for an enjoyable way of exercising and keeping fit in the ‘great outdoors’ and one which will prove a valuable aid to maintaining the stamina and flexibility needed to be at one’s best during an evening’s table tennis.

The Great Yarmouth & District part of the project is co-ordinated and lead by exercise teacher, Sally Dravnieks who is a member of REP – the Register for Exercise Professionals. Sally also specialises in Cardiac Rehabilitation and has already proved an absolute godsend in helping some of our league members regain a decent level of fitness following ‘cardiac events’ – General Secretary, Jerry Walker being one of them.

‘We walk’ activities run for almost 52 weeks per year and include fitness walks for a range of abilities as well as teaching Nordic Walking (with poles!) which is a great way of exercising the upper body  - so important in racquet and bat sports.

If any GYDTTL members would like to know more, speak directly to Jerry or contact Sally whose details can be found on the ‘We Walk’ or ‘Active Norfolk’ websites or in the ‘Fit Together’ booklet (copies available from Jerry).
