Yarmouth Table Tennis Players win College Match

A team from East Norfolk Sixth Form College, which included six GYDTTL players, travelled to Norwich to play teams from the UEA. The 10-strong East Norfolk squad split into two teams of 5, each team playing a UEA team of 4 players. The East Norfolk first team managed a 10-all draw with their opposite numbers from the UEA (the UEA first team included a player who had reached the final rounds of the British Universities Men's Singles Championship and players from the top divisions of the Norwich and District Table Tennis League) whilst the East Norfolk second team won 11-9 over their opponents from Norwich, resulting in a 21-19 overall victory for the Sixth Form squad.

Congratulations to Edna Fletcher for winning a Gold Medal in the Veteran European Championships held in Rotterdam.

Local player Edna Fletcher has triumphed in the Veteran European Championships held in Rotterdam. After a long lay off through injury this was an excellent tournament for her. Playing in the over 80's singles Edna had a good semi-final beating the strong Latvian player in straight sets.

The final was an excellent contest, her opponent Krejkova from the Czech Republic with a variety of strokes took the first game, but then lost the second and went ahead winning the third. Back fought Fletcher taking the fourth. Battle on for the fifth and final game, scores were even up to 8-all but then the local star went ahead with two good back-hand strokes and forced her opponent to make the next error giving Edna the title and gold medal.

Congratulations to Sam Mallett for winning the "Performance of the Day" Trophy at the Regional Youth Finals in Braintree.

Sam Mallett, from Acle Table Tennis Club, played brilliantly in his match at the Regional Tournament in held in Essex. The tournament, to which Acle TT Club had been invited to send a team, was dominated by strong National Squad youth players.

Sam won his trophy for beating a girl ranked No. 30 in the country three sets to two. Sam lost the first two sets but fought back hard to win the next three, giving him victory in the match and a trophy to take home...
