The preliminary rounds of the Championships were held at various locations ending with the semi-finals and finals at the Conservative Club. President Edna Fletcher MBE welcomed John Andrews- ETTA Development Manager- Eastern Region to the event. Youths semi -finals saw Alex Harley stave off the challenge of Lewis Carby 11/9 - 9/11 -11/7 - 11/3 and Curtis Beales had an excellent win in three straight over Peter Littleboy. In the final Alex won in three straight after a gallant effort by Curtis. In the over 40s Ernie George won against newcomer Darren Smith and Ray Lee went down to Wally Ladmore. Wally had high hopes when he took the first game 12 - 10 in the final - but Ernie fought back to win the next three and the title. The doubles had three left-handers with the "odd one out" being the veteran player Ray Lee who partnered Martin Clarke- they went down in the first 12/10 but fought back to win the second 13/11. Martin then won points on his loop shot to take the next two games against Ryan Moore and his young partner Lewis Carby to lift the title. The final event- the Singles saw Ernie George defeat Martin Clarke 13/11 - 11/8 - 11/4 and Ryan Moore took out Wally Ladmore in four hard -fought games. In an exciting final Ernie took the title defeating Ryan in five games 11/9 - 10/12 - 12/10 - 6/11 - 11/6. Edna Fletcher was referee.

BSC 3 Burrage 7 the winners stacking up points towards holding the title this season. St John "A" had a most interesting match with Kings Centre "A" ending in a draw- Ray Lee was at the top of his form and scored three. Caister "A" won their game against a two man ENSFC "B" team but not before Darren Smith had scored a maximum. James Smith fought hard and is improving with every game played- well done for endeavour. Then the college team found the going hard when they met the experienced Gorleston Con Club going down 8 games to 2 but the young team showed they were capable of springing a few surprises against the "oldies". Kings Church "C" went down 0 - 10 against the strong ENSFC "A" team then had a very enjoyable close match with Caister "B" when the doubles decided the winners- score 6 - 4.
Dynamos were involved in a very tight match with B S C, the final score depending on the doubles which Sugar won giving them a 6 games to 4 victory. Dynamos then met Sparks and won 8 games to 2 but the losers put up a strong fight- three of the games going to five and two to four. Kings Church "A" 9 Mill Lane 1. This was a good all-round performance by Church to beat the normally steady Mill Lane team. Kings Church "B" could not overcome the experienced Gorleston Conservative team but Tadeusz Machioca beat both Cadmore brothers to give his team two points- young Luke Demetriou lost in four to Reg - score 2 – 8. Curtis Robinson beat Liam Current and Charles Hacon and Mathew Smith won two when Kings Church ‘C’ met Caister ‘B’- young Joshua Baker went down in the fifth to Charles- and will achieve more success next season, score Kings Church ‘C’ 4 Caister ‘B’ 6. Next week the Yarmouth Championships are being held
with the finals on Thurs April 7th. Table Tennis League results submitted by Edna Fletcher on 13/03/11 St Johns "B" had a comfortable win 10 - 0 when they met Sparks. Dynamos struggled against Mill Lane where they found Peter Littleboy and Josh Baxter in good form- the latter gaining a great maximum when he claimed the scalp of Chris Neve - score 4 – 6. BSC were on top against Police- winning 9 games to 1. There was some spirited resistance from St Johns "A" against a strong Dynamos team but they went down 2 -8 but the Dynamos then met Burrage who took all ten from them. Mill Lane went down 2 - 8 against John "B" but not before Josh Baxter had won his games against Wally Ladmore and Paul Wright Snr- he took Frank Hayward to four games in a spirited performance. Caister "A" had no answer to the power play of ENSFC "A" and lost 0 – 10. A two man Kings "C" team lost 2 - 8 to ENSFC B Mathew Smith winning two- James Smith beat Luke Demetriou in "the battle of the youngsters". ENSFC "B" and Kings Church "B" played out a good 5 - 5 draw with the young players enjoying another match. ENSFC "A" notched up a good 10 - 0 win over Caister "B" to strengthen their position at the top of division two. The Yarmouth Championships are being held at various

Youth dominated the Handicap Singles- when five youngsters reached the last eight. Group "A" had Luke Demetriou and Josh Baxter in a play-off for top position with the latter winning. James Smith was a clear winner in Group "B"- Curtis Beales the runner-up. Again a play-off was needed when in Group "C" Mike Wood and Joshua Baker tied for first spot with six points each- Josh defeated Mike Group "D" was hotly contested- Martin Clarke just scraped the odd point to take top position followed closely by Tadeusz Maciocha. The Quarter-Finals saw the first two matches go to three with Josh beating Tadeusz and Luke taking out Martin. Mike Wood then came up against a determined James Smith and went down 21 - 11 / 21 - 12 Curtis Beales fell to Joshua Baker in two straight. Josh lost a close first game in the Semi to Joshua and then the latter took advantage of his fifteen point start to hit his way to the final with a second game win of 21 – 10. The second Semi between Luke and James swung first one way and then back in favour of the other. Luke won 21 - 19/ 13 - 21 / 21 - 18 in a most sporting encounter enjoyed by all the spectators. With both young players on handicaps of plus fifteen the final started at scratch and what an entertaining performance the youngsters gave! Joshua took the first 21 - 18 then lost the next 14 -
21- and both determined players took the game to 20 - all and Luke won
the deciding point to claim the title. An excellent final umpired by
Lewis Carby. The "B" section was fiercely contested and once again we saw the youngsters Joshua Baker and Luke Demtriou- this time in partnership forge ahead unbeaten to take their place in the Semi’s. Ernie George and his partner- Curtis Beales scored five points to move to joint second together with Colin Fortescue and Josh Baxter- The play-off was victory for Ernie and partner where they then met Ryan and Lewis but lost 21 - 15 / 19 - 21 / 17 – 21. Joshua and Luke defeated Ray / Martin to take their place in the final - and their confidence was high when they won the first set 21 - 12 but the experience of Ryan / Lewis served them well and they won the next two sets 21 - 19 / 21 - 19 to take the title. Tournament Officer Charlie Hacon was in attendance and Referee was Edna Fletcher. Thanks go to Mill Lane Centre and Kings Church Centre for providing facilities. Next tournament will be the Town Championships during week beginning March 28th with the finals the following week. Mill Lane played BSC and were only able to win one game this by Josh Baxter when he defeated the experienced Paul White. St Johns "A" had to field two subs and Michael Edwards proved to be the star when he gained two victories against Mill Lane- the match ended all square when Mill Lane grabbed the doubles. Sparks with only two players were no match against Dynamos and were able to enjoy an early sociable half hour in the bar ! Kings "A" won the doubles to earn a draw against the Police. Kings Church Centre "C" could only muster 3 games against Telecom. A great battle when Caister "B" met their "A" team and with Sarah taking her first maximum the "B" team were the victors 6 games to 4 Support from Liam Current and Charlie Hacon. ENSFC "A" played like "top of the table champs" when they met the Gorleston Conservatives and ran out comfortable winners by 7 games to 3. Telecom scored 9 against the College "B" team but the losers fought hard for every point- James Smith enjoying his games. The games between Kings Church "C" and their "B" team ended in a 7-3 victory for the "B" players- all games were very closely contested.

Thursday the 24th will see the Handicap Singles played and the following day the doubles. Burrage had two more good wins - 8 - 2 when they met Kings Church Centre "A" and 9 - 1 when they played Mill Lane - Peter Littleboy had a very good win over David Boatman - Mill Lane bounced back with a comfortable 8 - 2 victory over Sparks - Josh Baxter was back in form after his injury lay-off and was supported well by Peter Littleboy and John Smith who gained two wins each. BSC scored eight points when meeting Kings Church "A" but Mike Wood defeated both Carl Stevenson and Peter White - Lewis Carby also battled hard- taking the first two from Martyn Clarke but losing the next three. St Johns "B" took all ten against Sparks who are struggling this season. Dynamos played out an exciting match with the Police team, four games went to five - but the Police managed to "NICK" the extra points for victory - 6 – 4. Darren Smith played a good match for ENSFC "B" when
they met the Gorleston Conservative Club- he won two against the
experienced "Cadmores" but his team lost 8 – 2. Telecom continued their winning streak taking all ten points from Kings Church "B" who had young Luke Demetriou in their team- he played extremely well and we will no doubt see him in the team again. Kings "C" could do no better and Telecom recorded another victory Mathew Smith and Curtis Robinson did well- score - 8 – 2. Against the college "A" team Kings Church "B" could only muster two players and again lost all ten points. Caister "A" and Gorl Cons played out a very tight match- the result was in doubt right up to the doubles and ended in a draw. BSC are currently top of Division One- played 8 matches and scored 66 points followed by St Johns "B" with 62 points- Burrage in third place have played two fewer games and have scored 56 points- Sparks are currently in bottom position. ENSFC "A" are riding high in Division Two played 9 matches and scored 74 points followed by the Gorl Cons with 60 and Telecom with 47. Wally Ladmore and Ernie George top the averages in

The final of the Spring Pairs competition has been played at the Great Yarmouth Conservative Club. With eight players representing the four teams some exciting games were played with many being won/lost by a single point. Young Joshua Baker again took advantage of his 15+ handicap- producing some winning shots which surprised his older opponents- he managed to gain four points for his team and with his partner Martin Clarke also on form gaining four - B.S.C. were on top but following them all the way were Ray Lee and Bob Lamb for St Johns "A" and they scored a last gasp point to tie for top spot leaving a play-off to decide who would take the trophy. Martin played Ray and with his loop shot on target took the title for BSC. The Spring Pairs Competition group play has been contested with many close games deciding the winners. In Group "A" St Johns "A" represented Ray Lee and Bob Lamb were clear winners taking eleven points- Kings Church "A" - Mike Wood and Lewis Carby had to be content with the runners-up spot. Group "B" was much closer at the finish- Police- Nick Calver and Simon Allen just edged out Dynamos by one point to claim top spot. Group "C" saw Sparks gallop ahead and go forward to the final- Chris Durrant and Brendan Green used their handicap most efficiently- Gorleston Conservatives and St Johns B were joint second. Group "D"- with five teams was extremely close- at the end Burrage and BSC played a deciding game and put forward their two young players- who with equal handicaps played from scratch- Joshua Baker was the winner over Luke Demetriou- putting BSC through to the final. Throughout the groups many games were won by a
single/two points- which pointed to good handicapping. St John "B" had a good 8 - 2 win over Dynamos- Kevin Chaney played well with two of his games going to five and one to four- Neville Beckett had an interesting tussle with Frank Hayward but went down in the fourth. Burrage whitewashed Sparks in a very one-sided match. Gorleston Conservatives took 8 against Kings Church "C" with Michael Edwards the only winner for the losers. Dynamos - fielding their strongest team were 8 - 2 winners against St Johns A and again 8 - 2 against Kings Church "A" with Mike Wood and Curtis Beales gaining the two points for the losers. BSC currently top Division One followed by St John "B". Burrage and St Johns "A"- Burrage have games in hand. The bottom two are Sparks and Police. ENSFC "A" are well clear at the top of Division Two followed by Caister "A" and Gorleston Conservative Club, at the bottom are Kings Church "C" and ENSFC "B"- this could all change when league play re-commences. James Smith (aged 12) had an eventful initiation and managed to win a
game. Four matches went to 5 and could have gone either way. Darren Smith
playing well and scored a max. The Autumn Handicap has been completed at the Yarmouth Conservative Club. Ray Lee - 7 was drawn against Lewis Carby + 4 and the young player took advantage of his + 8 start playing strongly to beat the veteran player 21 - 14 / 21 – 16. Alex Harley + 4 was on great form when he met Ryan Moore - 14 and the latter could not pull back the difference of being 11 down to start - and lost 15 - 21 / 6 - 21. Peter Littleboy + 5 against John Smith + 3 saw the latter go into the lead - but Peter clawed his way back to victory 21 - 20 / 21 - 18. The game between Curtis Beales and Tadeusz Maciocha turned out to be a battle of "serves". Curtis just hung on to win 21 - 19 / 21 – 19. Alex met Curtis in the first Semi-Final and lost the opening game 16 - 21 but then changed tactics and ran out a comfortable winner 21 - 15 / 21 - 10. Lewis had his hopes high when he beat Peter in the first game 21 - 15 but Peter came roaring back with two great games to win 21 - 10 / 21 - 17. Alex playing a very consistent game was just too strong for Peter in the Final and became the new champion with a - 21 - 15 / 21 -18 victory. Tournament Officer Charles Hacon was in attendance. New handicaps and playing venues will be issued in
time for the "Spring Pairs" Competition in early January. Caister Community "B" have had three successes including one over their "A" team. E.N.S.F.C "A" were good winners against Gorleston Cons Club and in a tight game with Telecom- shared the points. Telecom just scraped a 6 - 4 win over Kings Church "B" when Alan Jones beat Edna Fletcher 15 - 13 in the fifth but the veteran player bounced back with a maximum against the Kings Church "C" team. In division one- BSC have made a good start gaining 27 points from three matches. Sparks have suffered three heavy defeats - and Mill Lane after losing 10 nil to Burrage have scored 10 points from their next two matches. The Group play in the Autumn handicap tournament has been concluded - Lewis Carby won 7 points dropping one to Ryan Moore and Mike Harvey- Ryan finished in runner-up spot- closely followed by Mike who lost two close games at deuce to finish third. Alex Harley was a clear group winner with 8 points and pushed John Smith into runners-up position. Peter Littleboy topped his group followed by Tadeusz Maciocha. The final group was won by Curtis Beales with Ray Lee gaining second position after a play-off with Peter Smith. After the excitement of the League Cup Final - normal matches have commenced-the players now have to adapt to the "11" up score. Results to date. Burrage had a good win over John "A" with Ernie George producing a maximum- Aaron Kemp scored two very good victories for the losers. Mill Lane were winners over Sparks - 7 games to 3. Kings "A" with Mike Wood taking two could make no headway against Wally Ladmore for Johns "B" who scored a maximum- final score 8 – 2. In the battle of the "colleges" the "A" team were clear victors over their "B" side with Mike Woolston and Alex Harley both unbeaten- Darren Smith notched the one point for the losers. Sarah and Gavin were on form for Caister "B when they met Kings Church "C" who put up a strong fight but they went down to the Community team by 6 games to 4. Last minute entries for the handicap tournament to be played on the 11th - phone EF now! Coaching for young players has re-located to the "Skate-Park" on Main Cross Road Yarmouth- Mondays 5 - 30pm until 7pm. Coach Ernie George would welcome any young person wishing to learn table tennis- just turn up with soft shoes.
The League Cup Final was held at the Mill Lane Centre between E.N.S.F.C. "A" and the Mill Lane team. Martin Pigott gave the college first blood when he scored an emphatic win 21 - 9 / 21 - 9 over Colin Fortescue. Young Josh Baxter then evened the score when in a most entertaining game he narrowly defeated Alex Harley 21 - 20 / 17 - 21 / 21 – 17. Mike Woolston then came up against an in-form Peter Littleboy and went down 21 - 15 / 21 – 17. Alex then made the score even again by defeating Colin 21 - 9 / 21 – 16. Martin met his waterloo when he played Peter- going down 21 - 18 / 21 – 20. Mike was hoping for a better result when he stepped up against Josh- he gave himself a fighting chance when he went ahead a few points but had to admit defeat by 21 – 19 / 21 – 11. Alex upped his game against Peter and ran out a comfortable winner 21 - 11 / 21 17. Score now 4 - 3 to Mill Lane. The eighth game was very competitive with first Mike and then Colin gaining the advantage- Colin scraped the first 21 - 19 but back bounced Mike with a very confident second game- winning 21 – 15. The third was a real battle swinging first in favour of the college player and then to the other- in the end the experience of Colin just saw him edge victory at 21 - 20 Mill Lane took the trophy with a 5 games to 3 victory. The teams thanked the Mill Lane Centre for staging an excellent Final. Referee Edna Fletcher and Tournament Officer, Charles Hacon were in attendance. The November Handicap will be brought forward one week and will be played on Thursday November 11th at the Yarmouth Conservative Club. Mill Lane met Burrage and ran out good 5 - 2 winners- star player was John Smith who recorded three victories- with Peter Littleboy and Josh Baxter scoring one each. For Burrage junior Luke Demetriou played well and has enjoyed the experience of playing against stronger players. A tight match was played out between ENSFC "A" and Kings Church "A" ending in victory for the college team by 5 games to 4 Alex Harley was the star for the victors taking three with Mike Woolston winning two. Martin Pigott went twice to three sets but was unlucky to lose both. For the losers Curtis Beales took two - Lewis Carby one and Mike Wood one- a brilliant match each set closely contested. Most of the League Cup fixtures have been played, although there are three left in the larger Group "D". Gorleston Conservatives have put back their match with BSC until October 7th both Kings A and St Johns B have completed their fixtures with three wins each but the Kings team have the better average and therefore look as if they are the favourites to go forward although the Gorl Cons could win two and score 15 points to draw level. Results: Hospital Telecom lost 2 - 7 to Hosp.Dynamos and again 2 - 7 to Burrage. Dynamos had another good win against Caister A 6 games to 3. Surprisingly Kings A went down 5 - 4 to Gorl Conservatives in a very tight game- but they bounced back with a good 7 - 2 victory over St Johns B. Sparks had a good game against ENSFC B 8 - 1 bringing their total to two wins and one loss and Kings Church B went down in a very hard fought match to Mill Lane 5 - 3 and one game was conceded by Edna F who found the games very exhausting taking both her opponents to three. Winners of the groups are: Group "A" ENSFC "A" Group "B" Burrage. Group "C" Mill Lane and Group "D" to be decided. Semi-finals will be A versus D and B versus C. League matches have now commenced. on 18/09/10 Police were eliminated from Group "A" for failing to play their first two games. ENSFC "A" won all nine games against Kings Church "C". In Group "B" Dynamos with Kevin Chaney/Neville Beckett and Chris Neve on duty must have anticipated a victory when Burrage could only muster Ernie George from their regular side together with Junior Luke Demetriou but the lad played exceptionally well and was "chuffed" to take all three games and together with three from Ernie- the match 6 - 3. Kings Church "B" opened their challenge in Group "C" with a win over ENSFC "B" 7 - 2 with Tadeusz Maciocha and Karen Hemp playing well - but then came up against Hospital Sparks and lost 3 - 6. In Group "D" St Johns "B" just scraped through 5 games to 4 against BSC and then in a very competitive match against Gorleston Conservatives they took the last game to gain a lucky win again 5 – 4. Albert Cadmore took three for the losers and junior Callum McGeachen played well in support. The Gorleston Club lost again against a lively Caister "B" team 2 games to 7. informed. Mercury report submitted by Edna Fletcher on 03/09/10 The new season kicked off with the annual Dickie Moore Cup - staged at Northgate and attracted an entry of eighteen players. Group "A" with five players was hotly contested - Paul Wright Jnr took top spot but dropped a game against Arron Kemp and Lewis Carby. Lewis took a game off Arron but could not prevent him from gaining the runners-up spot. Group "B" saw Curtis Beales with some excellent play take the top spot especially when he played Paul Wright Snr which he won forcing the latter to a play-off for second place with Peter Littleboy. Peter went through. New-comer Tadeusz Maciocha played well winning against Charles Hacon and taking one set from Peter. Ernie George did not drop a set in Group "C" Josh Baxter also qualified. Gavin Brewer had to scratch from Group "D" leaving Mike Wood to go forward followed by Alex Harley. Quarter-Finals pitched Arron against Alex which he won 5 - 11/ 11 - 4 / 11 - 9 / 11 – 5. Paul beat Mike 11 - 7 / 11 - 8 / 11- 2. Ernie beat Peter 11 - 3 / 11 - 3 / 11 – 3. Josh beat Curtis 9 - 11 / 11 - 8 / 11 - 9 / 11 – 7. Ernie played a good semi-final taking out the promising junior Arron by 11 - 2 / 11 - 7 /11 – 8. Paul was the victor over Josh. In an excellent final Paul took the first game winning 11 – 9. Ernie fought back with a deuce win of 12 – 10. Paul piled on the pressure and won the third 11 - 7. Ernie was back to the wall and at 10 all hit two superb shots to take the game 12 – 10. The fifth was a ding dong battle with excellent rallies- each player going for a win but two slight errors by Ernie let Paul in and he ran out the winner 11 - 8 to become the new champion. Prizes were presented by the President Edna Fletcher who congratulated all the players on an entertaining tournament. Would Northgate players please note the new fees that
